Boarding Experience

The boarding process in Vienna was smooth, organized, and completely hassle-free. Austrian Airlines Business Class passengers had access to dedicated check-in counters, helping speed up the airport experience.

Boarding itself started on time, and premium passengers were able to board early and settle into the cabin before Economy Class boarding began.

Flight Information

This Austrian Airlines Business Class flight operated between Vienna and Los Angeles onboard a Boeing 777-200.

One downside is that Wi-Fi was unfortunately not available on this aircraft, which is increasingly unusual nowadays on major long-haul airlines.

Austrian Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class Seats

Austrian Airlines uses a staggered Business Class configuration on the Boeing 777-200, alternating between 1-2-1 and 2-2-1 layouts. The seat design is very similar to the SWISS Business Class seat found across much of the Lufthansa Group fleet.

While the seat itself remains comfortable for sleeping on long-haul flights, the cabin no longer feels particularly modern compared to newer Business Class suites with closing doors and significantly more privacy.

Privacy is the weakest aspect of the Austrian Airlines Business Class seat. Passengers seated in the more exposed rows may find themselves sitting quite close to strangers.

For passengers wanting additional privacy, Austrian Airlines sells so-called “Privacy Seats” for an additional fee. These seats resemble the “throne seats” found on some other airlines and offer slightly more separation from neighboring passengers.

Storage space around the seat is decent without being particularly generous. Bedding quality, however, was very good, with soft pillows and a comfortable blanket helping create a pleasant sleeping experience.

The entertainment screens were perfectly adequate for a long-haul flight, and the provided noise-cancelling headphones performed well.

Amenities

The amenity kit included the standard Business Class essentials and covered everything needed for a long-haul overnight flight.

While the kit itself did not feel especially luxurious or memorable, it was functional and well presented.

Food and Drinks

This is where Austrian Airlines truly stands out.

Austrian Airlines Business Class offers one of the strongest culinary experiences currently available in European Business Class. The airline’s onboard catering is famous among frequent flyers for good reason.

One particularly unique feature is the onboard chef concept, which significantly improves presentation and meal quality compared to many competitors.

The appetizers and cheese selection were excellent, and Austrian Airlines also offers an extensive dedicated coffee menu featuring a wide range of specialty coffees.

Pictures honestly do not fully capture how good the food tasted onboard this flight.

Service

The onboard service throughout the flight was excellent.

The Austrian Airlines cabin crew delivered friendly, professional, and attentive service from boarding until arrival in Los Angeles.

Unlike some airlines where service can feel rushed or impersonal, Austrian Airlines still manages to maintain a more traditional hospitality-focused premium experience.

Combined with the excellent catering, the crew played a major role in making this flight memorable.

Is Austrian Airlines Business Class Worth It?

Austrian Airlines Business Class on the Boeing 777-200 remains a highly competitive long-haul Business Class product despite its aging seat design.

While passengers looking for maximum privacy may prefer newer Business Class suites from airlines such as Qatar Airways, ANA, or British Airways Club Suite, Austrian Airlines continues to excel where many airlines struggle: food and service.

The combination of excellent catering, strong coffee service, comfortable bedding, and friendly Austrian hospitality creates a very enjoyable overall experience.

Final Verdict: Outstanding food and service compensate for limited seat privacy.
