Review: KTX, Korean high speed train – 1st class
Korea Train eXpress (KTX) is South Korea’s high-speed rail system, operated by Korail.
We booked the KTX from Andong to Seoul.
Seats
Seats are in a 2-1 configuration and are very spacious. They can be compared to the green class seats of Japan’s Shinkansen. They recline fair, have a small table, a hook for your jacket, air vents and power outlets at each seats. Sockets for headphones are available to listen to some music or watch a South Korean TV channel.
Food and drinks
You can purchase food and drinks from the staff coming around the cabin every 20 minutes or so. Water bottles are provided free of charge for first class passengers.
Other amenities
Every passenger receives a small amenity kit with some cookies, headphones and a wet towel.Free WiFi is available at most trains and the speed is fair. Furthermore a selection of local newspapers is available in the entrance as well as some space to store your luggage.
Conclusion
Like the Shinkansen in Japan, this is a very convenient and fast way to travel around the country.
