Flying Blue is now offering an enhanced paid status match exclusively for British Airways Executive Club members based in the UK.
While Flying Blue has been offering a paid status match for some time, this new offer comes in response to recent changes in the British Airways Executive Club terms.
The cost for the match is £99, regardless of the status you are matching to.
- BA Bronze -> Flying Blue Silver
- BA Silver -> Flying Blue Gold
- BA Gold -> Flying Blue Platinum
You will be granted status with Flying Blue for a full 12 months.
Flying Blue increases award costs
While Flying Blue is introducing the enhanced status match, they are simultaneously raising the cost of award tickets. They now cost between 15% and 25% more than before. The increase primarily affects flights with KLM and Air France.
Apparently, Flying Blue has increased the cost of award tickets, claiming it will improve availability for the lower-priced award flights.
Since Flying Blue award tickets are dynamic, it’s usually possible to find an award seat. However, one-way tickets can cost several hundred thousand miles!! Meanwhile, the lower-priced award flights, for example between Europe and North America are starting (now) at 60,000 miles (50,000miles before the increase) have become nearly impossible to find.
