The Uptrip App: Earn Qualifying Points, Points and even a status
Lufthansa Uptrip is a loyalty program managed by the Lufthansa Group. It gives members the chance to scan their boarding passes, whether for paid or award flights, to collect cards and earn extra benefits along the way.
The program has been around for a little while now. At first, it was kind of seen as just a bit of a gimmick, but it’s still active, and the perks you can earn keep changing and improving over time. So, it’s worth keeping an eye on if you like getting some extra rewards just for flying or scanning your passes.
When to benefit from Lufthansa Uptrip
Whenever you take a flight with a Lufthansa Group airline, consisting of the following:
- Air Dolomiti
- Austrian Airlines
- Brussels Airlines
- Discover Airlines
- Edelweiss
- Eurowings
- Lufthansa
- Lufthansa City Line
- SWISS
- ITA Airways will probably join this list next months, as it is now a part of the Lufthansa Group.
You can simply scan your boarding pass within the app to collect 2 cards per flight.
How to use Uptrip
Every time you fly with one of the airlines mentioned earlier, whether it’s a paid flight or an award flight, you have the chance to scan your boarding pass. Once you do that, you’ll be able to choose between two different cards that you can collect. It’s a simple process, but one that can add up to some nice rewards over time.
So, what can you do with these collected cards? Well, if you gather the right cards, or sometimes just enough of them, you can eventually redeem your collection. Doing so will unlock a special perk or benefit for you. It’s a way to turn your flying activity into some added advantages, making your trips even more rewarding.
Currently, some of the perks you can access are listed here below. The perks may vary over time, but it’s a pretty straightforward way to get a little more out of your flights.
- Business Class Lounge Voucher
- FTL status (50 cards, for example)
- Upgrade Voucher
- Qualifying Points as well as Points
- Wi-Fi Voucher
In the end, you do not have to do more than scanning your boarding pass in the app to earn additional perks, so even if you only have one or a couple of flights with the Lufthansa group, use the app. If you do not have enough cards to immediately redeem a collection, more collections are popping up regularly, and you might even get a small reward with a single flight in the future (like it was in the past).
Ultimately, all you really need to do to earn extra perks is just scan your boarding pass using the app. It’s a simple step, and it doesn’t require much effort at all. So even if you only have one or a couple of flights with the Lufthansa group, it’s definitely worth using the app. If you don’t have enough cards right away to redeem a full collection, don’t worry, more collections are being added regularly and there is even the possibility to swap cards or buy extra cards. There’s a good chance that, even with just a few flights in the future, you might earn a small reward. It’s a convenient way to get a little extra out of your travel, even if you’re not flying often or don’t have many cards yet.

CO2 Compensation: Earn Qualifying Points & Points
Just recently, Miles-and-More introduced a new way for members to earn additional qualifying points and regular points by compensating for their CO2 emissions. It’s a pretty straightforward and “environmentally conscious” initiative that allows travellers to contribute to carbon offset programs while also boosting their frequent flyer accounts.
There are three different ways you can earn these extra points, and one of them is especially valuable.
It’s a great opportunity for frequent flyers and occasional travellers alike to not only make their travels “a bit greener” but also to gain extra perks through these new earning options.
Earn Extra points while booking
The Lufthansa group offers a special option called “Green Fares,” which is designed to give you the chance to earn 20% more points and qualifying points on your flights. It might sound pretty tempting at first, especially if you’re trying to rack up extra miles or benefits.
However, the catch is that these fares tend to be considerably more expensive than your regular tickets. In most cases, you’ll end up paying at least 50% more. When you do the math, it doesn’t really make much sense, because the additional cost often outweighs the benefit of the extra points you earn.
Earn Extra points before departure
Before you take your flight, you also have the option to offset your CO2 emissions. This can be a good idea if you’re interested in making your travel a bit more environmentally friendly. However keeping in mind that you want to earn extra points towards your status, the pricing for these offsets often seems pretty random, and it can vary a lot from one flight to another. If the costs aren’t sky-high or don’t suddenly spike, it might be a worthwhile investment
Earn Extra points after you took your flights.
This is where the real value actually comes in. After you’ve taken your flight, the cost to offset your CO2 is pretty straightforward, it mostly depends on the distance you flew, no matter if you were in economy or business class. So, whether you’re flying short hops or long distances, the price for offsetting remains pretty consistent based on how far you travelled.
Miles-and-More makes it easy to offset your CO2 even if you’re flying with airlines that aren’t part of Miles-and-More, especially if your main goal is to earn the last missing Points rather than Qualifying Points.
The real sweet spot for getting the best value is on really short positioning flights, ideally in business class. These quick flights tend to be cheaper to offset and can give you a better return in terms of Points earned, making them a smart option if you want to maximize benefits in a cost-effective way.
For example, if in a preceding booking you had a Business Class flight between Luxembourg and Frankfurt, which is just under 200km drawing a direct line, for only 9,5€ you can compensate your CO2 emissions and earn a whooping 32 extra Points and 32 extra Qualifying Points.
So very short flights in Business class will give you the opportunity to “buy” Qualifying points at an extremely low rate.
Earn Points with Marriott Stays
Miles-and-More has had a partnership with Marriott for a while now. Up until recently, you could earn extra miles whenever you booked a stay through Miles-and-More, which was a nice bonus for frequent travellers looking to stack up more miles easily.
However, now, if you register here you can earn up to 120 Points per year simply by linking your Miles-and-More account to your Marriott Bonvoy account.
For up to 3 stays of two night or more, you will earn 40 Points per stay.
Exchange miles for points
If you have a Miles-andMore credit card or at least hold the Frequent Traveller Stats (FTL), you get the option to exchange your miles for Qualifying Points.
The maximum to earn here is 100 Qualifying Points if you exchange 25’000 miles.
While it’s not the best exchange rate out there, it’s definitely the simplest way to earn the missing points you need for your status.
Bottom Line
Miles-and-More is making it easier than ever to earn Qualifying Points and regular Points, even without setting foot on a plane.
This is great news if you often take short-haul business class flights and sprinkle in a few Marriott stays during the year.
Instead of relying solely on flights to rack up the 650 Points needed for FTL status, you could hit your goal with around 300 Qualifying Points from flying and make up the rest through hotel stays or other easy options.
If you’re just a few points short of your next status level, this is a fantastic way to close the gap, no extra flights or costly mileage runs needed. Take advantage of these opportunities and lock in your status with less effort (and more comfort).
