Earn Extra Avios on Hotel Bookings: How to Maximise Rewards at No Extra Cost

Most travelers do not realize that they can earn Avios not only from flights but also from hotel bookings. Even better, in many cases you can earn both Avios and hotel loyalty points on the same stay. After the recent changes to the Avios programme that reduced the return on many flights, earning Avios via hotel stays is an easy way to boost your balance.

How the Avios Shopping Portal Works

British Airways, Iberia, and Aer Lingus all offer access to the Avios shopping portal, where partner hotels and booking platforms award Avios per £1 spent. There is no surcharge or higher rate for using these links.

Simply log in with your British Airways Executive Club, Iberia Plus, or AerClub account and make your booking through the portal. Your Avios will be credited automatically after your stay.

Avios Earning Rates for Hotel Bookings

Here are some of the most rewarding partners, with current earning rates per £1 spent:

  • Accor Hotels: 15 Avios / £1
  • IHG Hotels: 15 Avios / £1
  • Agoda: 10 Avios / £1
  • Hotels.com: 8 Avios / £1
  • Booking.com: 8 Avios / £1
  • Radisson Hotels: 8 Avios / £1
  • Hilton Hotels: 6 Avios / £1
  • Marriott Bonvoy: 4 Avios / £1
  • VRBO (holiday rentals): 2 Avios / £1

This is one of the easiest ways to top up your Avios balance, especially for frequent hotel guests or anyone planning a long stay.

Where to Find All Participating Partners

You can browse the full list of participating hotels, booking platforms, and other retailers directly in the Avios shopping portal.

Note: All deals are personally verified and bookable directly with airlines or reputable travel partners. Prices and availability can change quickly, we never sell flights ourselves.

Booking dot com along with others use cookies to raise prices when redirected from airlines for points purposes. I have the proof if in question. Its up to 10 % higher price when using arbiter booking.

I recently made three bookings on Booking.com through the Avios shopping portal. Before clicking through the portal, I checked the prices directly on Booking.com. After redirecting via the portal, the prices were exactly the same.

That said, I know this is not always the case. Miles & More, for example, also has a shopping portal that redirects you to Booking.com. Two years ago they ran a promotion offering 30 miles per euro spent. I checked the prices at the time and they were indeed higher through the portal. However, the extra cost was still worth it because the value of the additional miles far exceeded the price difference.

Regarding the claim that “Booking.com and others use cookies to raise prices when redirected from airlines for points,” this can happen in some scenarios. In some cases prices via a partner portal can be higher up to 10 percent, yes, but not always. Cookies are also required to track where you came from so that your miles or points can be credited
