Review: Four Points by Sheraton Hakodate

This review is for a normal double room in the Four points by Sheraton in Hakodate during summer 2018.

Hakodate

Hakodate is the 3rd largest city of Hokkaido. It has a huge fish market and a lot of sushi restaurants as well as some historic cultural sites.

As the Four Points by Sheraton is the only hotel available of a major chain and had solid reviews, we opted in for that one.

Location

The hotel is located in front of Hakodate’s main station. A tram stop as well as the bus terminal are within walking distance, and the fish market can be reached in 5 minutes by foot, so the location of the hotel can be described as ideal.

Rooms

The rooms are modern and clean as the hotel has been opened in 2015. All amenities that you need are provided and the view from the top floors is very nice. Decoration in the room is adequate.

However the rooms are pretty small and storage room is somewhat missing. The room is also missing a closet, only a small space is available to hang a jacket. The bathroom is not huge but very clean. The walls of the rooms are a problem because when the person in the next room is watching TV or talking to someone else , you can hear each and every word which of the conversation. This was very inconvenient and depending on your neighbours, forces you to sleep with earplugs.

A safe deposit box is available in the room, as well as a large enough TV and a refrigerator for personal use.

A water heater with some coffee and tea as well as two bottles of water are provided free of charge each day.

Food & Drinks

The hotel has one big restaurant where they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. We had breakfast here which was nothing special but you could find the basic Japanese and Western dishes. Maybe a little more charm or decoration would give the restaurant a nicer touch.

They also have a bar on their last, 13th floor, where you have a wonderful view over the ocean. Surprisingly the bar was smoke free and the ambiance was really romantic. They have a large selection of cocktails and spirits.

They have a small spa where you can book massages but they do not have a fitness room.

Conclusion

The Hotel has a perfect location next to the main station and is within walking distance of many sites and public transportation. The rooms however are very small and to sleep well, you have to hope for neighbours which are very quiet or you have to use earplugs. If you need a hotel next to the station for a night it is worth considering the Four Points by Sheraton. Otherwise I would suggest looking for some other sleeping opportunities in the same area.
