This pattern has become more common after the pandemic, as demand for premium travel remains strong. In general, business class fares tend to rise as the departure date approaches, but booking too early can also mean missing upcoming promotions. The ideal window to book business class flights is usually between 6 and 12 months before departure, when airlines release their promotional fares but before demand drives prices up. Our advice: If you see a business class price that fits your budget, book it right away. Waiting for a better price is risky, as fares can increase sharply, and often do. Sales still happen throughout the year, but timing them is almost impossible. Set your personal price limit, and once a fare falls below that level, grab it. It’s far better to book early than risk much higher prices closer to departure.   How Far in Advance Are Business Class Tickets Available? Airlines typically load their flight schedules around 330 to 360 days before departure. That means you can often start searching for business class fares about 11 months in advance. However, this doesn’t guarantee that the lowest fares will be available immediately. Airlines release discounted fares in waves based on demand forecasts, sales periods, or strategic promotions. This is why you may occasionally find attractive business class deals many months ahead, while other times discounts only appear closer to departure.   Be Flexible With Your Departure City Equally important as timing is where you start your journey. Business Class prices can vary significantly depending on the departure city, even when the actual long-haul flight is exactly the same. For example, a Lufthansa First Class ticket from Frankfurt to Johannesburg may cost over €6,000. However, starting the same journey from Amsterdam with a short connection in Frankfurt can reduce the price to around €3,800, while still putting you on the exact same long-haul flight. This strategy is known as positioning flights and is one of the most effective ways to save money on premium cabin tickets. In practice, many of the cheapest Business Class fares are not available from your home airport, but from alternative departure cities across Europe.
